Sheepshead Bay residents on East 18th Street are upset over a proposed hotel coming to the neighborhood block.
Neighbors say they found out about the proposed hotel from a flyer put on their doors on Jan. 25. The flyer says a permit has been filed for a seven-story hotel building that would have 72 hotel rooms.
They say they are unhappy with what the commercial building will do to the appearance of the block. They say they are concerned with who may move into the neighborhood and the possibility of homeless residents being housed there.
"We have already a homeless problem, two blocks down by the train station we have alcoholics and drug addicts and this is not going to help the situation. Where are they going to go? Right now they're in the street," said a resident.
Neighbors tell News 12 they would prefer a regular residential building on the block instead of a hotel. There is no confirmation on whether the developer plans to use the site to house homeless New Yorkers.
News 12 reached out to the developer and has not heard back yet.
