A group of students from Lindenhurst High School have become sick after traveling to Italy during winter break.
Administrators say the students are showing symptoms that indicate the flu, norovirus or possibly salmonella. This comes amid a coronavirus outbreak in the European country.
At this point, more than 200 people in Italy have tested positive for the coronavirus, killing at least six.
In a letter home to parents, Lindenhurst's superintendent of school says the symptoms "are in no way reflective of the respiratory symptoms or symptoms of pneumonia which accompany the coronavirus."
Students visited Rome, Florence and Venice, which are not on the list of 12 towns in Italt under quarantine.
School administrators have not disclosed how many students got sick. Suffolk's Health Department says no one in the county is under investigation for the coronavirus.
The superintendent says if you are experiencing nausea, vomiting or fever, to check with a doctor and get tested for the flu.
