The growing spread of the coronavirus in New York City is taking a toll on the city’s postal delivery. 
Bronx residents tell News 12 that mail service across the borough has been severely impacted. They say it has left some customers waiting for their mail and packages for days, others even weeks. 
News 12 cameras were rolling as the line outside the Morris Heights post office grew longer Thursday. It's scheduled to open at 9 a.m. but service began a half-hour later through a postal window. 
A supervisor told News 12 off camera that this site normally has 20 employees,  but because of coronavirus-related sick calls, they are operating with only nine workers. That is less than half their staff to serve the community.
In a statement, a United States Postal Service representative told News 12, "We are working to balance critical service needs with extraordinary employee needs and the public health issues within our own workforce. " 
USPS added in a statement, "We salute our workforce who continue to move America's mail.”
