A new campaign is garnering support from people all across the country to provide proper protective gear to hospitals on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.
The campaign is raising money to supply health care workers with the equipment they need to care for patients beating COVID-19.
"We heard a lot about their being mask shortages but in fact, there were a lot of masks being produced and they just weren't getting to the nurses, the doctors, the front line responders who needed them. And so we decided to come together and just directly get these masks to the people who need them most,” said campaign organizer, Bob Bland.
The campaign launched a GoFundMe account less than a week ago and in a matter of days, they have raised more than $75,000 to purchase masks from manufacturers they have partnered with.
Organizers say their first shipment of masks is set to arrive this week and that they will personally deliver them to Elmhurst Hospital Center.
"It's important that we use our resources as Americans, as activists, as organizers, as artists, to contribute to do our part to raise awareness. To make it accessible,” said organizer Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $250,000 to provide as many health care workers with masks as possible. Organizers say they plan to deliver masks to hospitals in need across the country.
