Connecticut's top biotech companies say they're weeks away from testing possible treatments for coronavirus.

A company in Guilford, called 4Catalyzer, is developing an at-home test that would allow people to use a phone app that gives results in minutes.

National disease expert Dr. Patrice Milos says the tests are getting simpler and faster.

"It would be fascinating to think about workplaces being able to actually do the testing on site," she says.

Other Connecticut companies say they're working on anti-viral treatments and vaccines, and that testing could start soon.

Protein Sciences in Meriden is working on a vaccine based on their previous work on SARS two decades ago.

The CEO of CaroGen in Farmington, Bijan Almassian, says his lab could be weeks away from testing its vaccine.

"We believe within the next four weeks, we will have sufficient data to advance our vaccine to the next stage of development," he says.

Experts say they expect another spike in coronavirus cases this fall and companies want to be ready.

They say even with new rapid tests and those that can be performed at home, the supply is still way behind demand.
