Parents and members at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy in Crown Heights say they feel blindsided after the Brooklyn Diocese announced that the school was one of six Catholic schools throughout Brooklyn and Queens that will be closing.
The announcement came July 9, with the Diocese saying that the schools suffered great financial deficit due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Melissa Campbell, president of St. Gregory's Parent–Teacher Association, says the community left the Brooklyn Diocese numerous messages for further questions, but have yet to receive answers.
Parents say the biggest problem is that they have to find a new school for their children to attend before September.
"Schools aren't opening, we don't know what's going to happen. Do we have to homeschool our children? And if we go to another Catholic school, how do we know that it won't close in another few months or another year?" Lily Johnson-Dibio says.
News 12 reached out to the Brooklyn Diocese but has not heard back yet.
