A mother and son are fighting human trafficking in the Bronx by giving to those in need.
The Freedom Youth Family Justice Center handed out free backpacks and school supplies to kids in the community.
Monique Ferguson, a victim of human trafficking, runs the organization dedicated to preventing prostitution, domestic violence and trafficking.
Their youth group, Color Me Advocacy, made up of about 30 teens, gave away the supplies – which included hand sanitizer and masks.
According to Freedom Youth Family Justice Center — 5.5 million children are in slavery across the globe and 4.5 million people are forced into sexual exploitation.
Ferguson is also involved in the Bronx Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Task Force, which works closely with legislators to enact laws that tackle these issues.
