RIVERDALE - Bronx students are working their way through the language portion of the Common Core exams this week.

At the end of April, students will take the math portion of the exams.

The Common Core assessment is a new model for state testing with higher standards than ever before.

Critics of the tests say teachers were unprepared to train students on the new material and that these high stakes tests created overwhelming pressure for students.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this week that test scores won’t go on student records until 2018.
