Tenants: Apartment fire caused by cigarette

Residents at the West 197th Street building say the man, who suffers from a disability, was smoking in bed when his first-floor apartment caught fire.

THE BRONX - A Bronx man was sent to the hospital and several firefighters were injured on Saturday during an apartment fire.

Residents at the West 197th Street building say the man, who suffers from a disability, was smoking in bed when his first-floor apartment caught fire. A neighbor says he broke the victim's windows and tried to assist him.

Another neighbor reported that the man was suffering from burns caused by the fire.

EMS officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
