THE BRONX - Tenants of a Bronx apartment building are demanding compensation after being left without gas for seven months.

Residents at 1520 Sheridan Ave. say they were without gas after a fire in August 2011. Despite the lack of gas, they say they continued to pay rent, but are now asking that they be compensated for the lack of utility service.

The landlord, Chestnut Holdings, says it provided hot plates to the residents during the gas outage and that the work would have been completed sooner had it not been for intervention by the advocacy group Community Action for Safe Apartments.

Residents say they will be taking their claims against Chestnut Holdings to small claims court.
