One person is dead and another wounded after gunfire erupted in a residential section of Wakefield overnight.
According to police, both victims were shot in the stomach in front of 4812 Murdock Ave., near the corner of East 242nd Street, at around 1:30 a.m.
One man, believed to be in his 30s, was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center and pronounced dead. The other, who is said to be 40 years old, is listed in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center.
Neighbors say the victims were in a car and that it seemed as though they were trying to drive away when they crashed into another vehicle. They believe the men were cornered at the dead end road and shot at.
No arrests have been made, and cops do not have a description of any suspects. However, neighbors tell News 12 the home in front of where the incident happened has security cameras and police are sifting through it.
Officials are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
