The incident happened in the southbound lane near Exit 11 across from Bay Plaza Mall in Co-op City before 2 a.m.
Police say Artimis Jones, 29, of the Bronx was killed while attempting to change a tire on a car stopped on the thruway. Jones and two others were struck by a Toyota Sienna. Jones died at the scene, officials say.
The two other men both 30-years-old, were transported to the hospital in serious condition.
