The 1-year-old girl who was punched multiple times in the face and head in Melrose died on Friday, according to police.

The baby girl, now identified as Imani Mitchell, was found semi-conscious at 664 Union Ave. back on Aug. 28.

She was taken to the hospital where she was in critical condition.

Police arrested 19-year-old Jerome Thomas, who lived at that same address. He was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Sources say the suspect is the boyfriend of the child's mother.

He may face additional charges as police say they are now investigating this case as a homicide.
