10 NYC parks to feature art from city-based artists
Artists and elected officials celebrated works of art being installed in 10 parks across New York City Tuesday.
The artists involved were chosen as a part of the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant, which gave 10 NYC-based artists $10,000 to create works of art for 10 different parks throughout the city.
The work at Joyce Kilmer Park is titled "Flying High for Equality" and features giant sparrows as a metaphor for the search of equality.
"This piece particularly talks about freedom and social justice and integration," says artist Patricia Cazorla. "Sparrows are a reflection of the strength and the resiliency of New Yorkers."
The art will be on display at the parks for the next year.
