A Bronx elementary school student is elevating the musical performance of tap dancing through her new invention. 

It’s what 10-year-old Jaia Perkins and professional Broadway dancer Jason Bernard are tapping on that’s making a difference in the quality heard from each musical step--an amplified board. 

The product was invented by Perkins after watching the movie “Tap” with her father. The board has built-in sensors so that the tap sound doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. 

Broadway dancer Jason Bernard, who is also her instructor, says the new invention could be a game-changer in tap. 

Perkin’s family has filed for a patent and is working on getting the board installed at dance studios, schools, reception halls and music venues.
