The 161st Street Business Improvement District received a grant that will allow them to hit a home run with the fans.
The $75,000 grant from the Department of Small Business Services will be used to beautify the district around Yankee Stadium.
Business owners in the neighborhood say they’ve already noticed the difference, including the Court Deli Restaurant, a business serving the community for 40 years.
Other business like Ballpark Sports say the grant does a good job keeping the streets clean and the area vibrant for those coming in for games.
“This is what’s good about the BID, because they’re on top of their game,” said Yousef Abbadi, manager at Ballpark Sports. “We have seven days or eight days straight of games here… so every day there’s new people coming in and they want to see what the Bronx is about.”
Trey Jenkins, executive director of the BID, says the grant will focus on improving sanitation, adding murals, marketing for businesses, and art installations at Lou Gehrig Plaza.
