A two-alarm Monday fire severely damaged a home in Pelham Bay.
The FDNY was called to East 196th Street for two-alarm fire that devastated a home and sent one firefighter to the hospital.
Officials say the injured firefighter was forced to bail out of a window using his personal safety system. In doing so, he burned his hands and was treated at New York City Health + Hospital/Jacobi.
In exclusive video from a neighbor, a little girl can be seen being escorted out onto the street while heavy black smoke poured out of the house. That 9-year-old was alone in the basement, according to the fire chief on scene and wasn't hurt.
The FDNY says the fire started in the back of the house and quickly rose to the second floor. It took them two hours to get the blaze under control. More than 100 firefighters worked to put out the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the deputy chief says it may be gas related. Con Edison and the Hazmat unit were requested to investigate.
