A violent night in the Bronx on Thursday left two young men dead in separate shootings less than an hour apart. Police now say that one of the suspected gunmen is in custody.

News 12 obtained video that appears to show the moments leading up to the first deadly shooting on Bronxwood Avenue in Williamsbridge. It appears to show a gunman pull up outside a deli, walk inside and come back out about a minute later before getting into a fight with a man police identified as 22-year-old Ricardo Bygrave.

Investigators say the suspect then backed away, pulled out a gun and shot Bygrave in the head.

About an hour later, gunfire rang out again across the borough at Richman Plaza.

Police arrested 76-year-old Gilbert Smalls in connection with that shooting. Investigators say he is accused of firing the shot that killed 21-year-old Justin Chatfield just after 10 p.m. Smalls is facing multiple charges, including murder and manslaughter.

“Everybody scared… everyone is scared. I should not have to walk around with a knife, mace or pepper spray,” one neighbor said.

Detectives are still searching for the gunman in the Williamsbridge killing.
