Police say a 55-year-old man shot two women inside an apartment building on Johnson Avenue in Spuyten Duyvil Thursday morning - killing one and critically injuring the other, before taking his own life.

Officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired around 8 a.m. at 2500 Johnson Ave.

According to police, Maria Garcia, 59, was found shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. An 86-year-old woman was shot in the face and rushed to Harlem Hospital, where police say she is in critical but stable condition.

Investigators later confirmed the man found dead was the shooter. The shooter was identified as Mario Garcia. Police believe the incident was domestic-related and involved family members, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives were seen going in and out of the building as police continued working to determine what led up to the shooting.
