Two NYPD officers are recovering after their patrol car overturned and caught fire following a crash on the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx.

Police say the officers were traveling along Bruckner Boulevard shortly after 1 a.m. when their patrol car was struck by a burgundy BMW. The impact caused the police vehicle to flip over before it burst into flames.

Video from the scene shows flames surrounding the patrol car while an officer directed motorists through the area. Firefighters arrived shortly afterward and worked to put out the fire. The roadway was closed while emergency crews responded.

The two officers were taken to nearby hospitals and are in stable condition, according to police. The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene.

Police are still working to determine what led to the crash.

The Bruckner Expressway has reopened to traffic, although some debris from the crash could still be seen near the scene.
