1 killed, 4 others injured in Baychester shooting

Police say a man was killed and four other people were injured after a Saturday night shooting in Baychester.

NYPD detectives say they received a 911 call about the shooting on Burke and Wickham avenues inside Haffen Park just before 7:30 p.m.

Officers found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest, and a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back.

EMS took both to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where the 32-year-old was pronounced dead.

The 31-year-old was listed in critical condition as of Saturday night, according to police.

Authorities say a 17-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the face walked into NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. She was listed in critical condition as of Saturday night.

A 29-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her back who also walked into NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi was listed in stable condition.

A 42-year-old man with a graze wound to his right arm who walked into Montefiore Hospital was also listed in stable condition, according to detectives.

Police say four people were taken into custody and multiple firearms were recovered.

People at the scene told News 12 that they heard at least 30 shots fired.

Detectives believe a basketball tournament was taking place when the shooting unfolded.
