The new year is off to a violent start with several shootings across the city.
A 28-year-old man was shot in the back in the Bronx just hours into 2021.
It happened at 170th Street and Walton Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Friday.
There is no word yet on his condition, but officials say this was the fifth shooting since the new year started at midnight.
The first happened just seven minutes after midnight in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
A 33-year-old woman was lying in her bed when a bullet shot through her second story window and struck her in the leg. She is expected to be OK.
In Queens, a 17-year-old was injured after being shot in the shoulder a few minutes later.
The first homicide of 2021 came just after 1 a.m. Police say a triple shooting in Kew Gardens took the life of a 20-year-old man while sending two others to the hospital, including a 40-year-old who is in critical condition.
The first shooting in the Bronx happened at 1:19 a.m. on Summit Avenue in the Highbridge section of the borough.
News 12 is told a dispute led to a 30-year-old being shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
No arrests have been made in any of these shootings. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
