Teenagers and community leaders walked across Brooklyn Bridge Saturday to spread awareness about the risk of violence in teen dating.

The Healing Center organizes the walk every year and says many teenagers don’t come forward when they experience abuse in relationships often out of fear that their parents might not understand or believe them.

Antonia Clemente, the founder of the nonprofit, says she’s seen an uptick in teens experiencing sexual violence in the last few years.

The event on Saturday was meant to assure teens that they are not alone and that there are resources available to them. It also aimed to educate parents on how to help their children in these situations.

The organization SafeHorizon took part in the walk today, which has a domestic violence hotline at 1- 800-621-HOPE, and more resources on its website.
