Gov. Kathy Hochul is suggesting New York City use Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn as a shelter for migrants amid a surge in asylum seekers after Title 42 ended.

Hochul sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging he direct FEMA to allow this space for migrants.

The area has military installations on it and is far from any commercial areas, with only one bus line connecting it along Flatbush Avenue.

City Councilwoman Joann Ariola opposes the governor's idea, saying in a statement, "Floyd Bennett Field is not the answer to our migration problems. Placing people there will lead to further problems for both New Yorkers and newcomers alike. I hope that the governor reconsiders this request, and that she comes to realize the great error that such a placement might become."

Councilman Ari Kagan added that he is also against this plan – as well as a plan to house migrants at the gym of P.S. 188 on Coney Island.
