New Yorkers rally on 3-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death in support of police accountability bill
Advocates for the campaign say that it’s been almost a year since the bill was introduced.

Protesters and advocates gathered outside of City Hall on Thursday, the three-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, to call on lawmakers to pass a bill that they say will hold police accountable for misconduct.
"Murderers, rapists, thieves, cops using their uniforms to abuse people have gotten away,” said Lee Gill, member of the NYC Campaign for an Elected Civilian Review Board. “If it's not George Floyd, it's somebody else and that's what happens when you have a runaway system."
The Community Power Act would grant the community power to discipline officers who commit misconduct and replace the district attorney with an independent prosecutor when police commit crimes.
Advocates for the campaign say that it’s been almost a year since the bill was introduced.
Protesters say that Thursday’s rally won’t be the last time they’re heard from – they say they’ll keep coming back until City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams sets a date for the hearing.
