Fire officials say nine people were injured in a Bronx apartment building fire.

Nearly 120 firefighters were dispatched to 289 Bonner Place around 6:38 a.m. for the large fire on the third floor of the five-story building. Fire officials say the fire extended to the fourth floor and affected multiple apartments.

Multiple lithium-ion batteries were found in one of the apartments, according to the FDNY. Fire officials have confirmed that the cause of the fire was a charging lithium-ion battery.

One firefighter and eight residents sustained minor injuries. One other person sustained a serious injury that is not considered life-threatening. While residents are still picking up the pieces, they're just happy that no one lost their life.

"This could have been much more tragic than it was," said resident Rose Gutierrez. "Belongings can be replaced, but we can't replace our lives."
