Bronx leaders address recent violence in the Bronx
Bronx district attorney Darcel Clark says she is using every tool possible to hold the people involved in this weekend’s violent incidents accountable.
Borough President Vanessa Gibson and District Attorney Darcel Clark came together with local leaders to denounce recent crimes after a stretch of violence over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Gibson and Clark were joined by faith and community leaders from across the borough, as well as the NYPD. Officials say that from June 30 through July 4, there were 16 shooting incidents and 25 shooting victims in the borough.
Two young girls, ages 5 and 12, were injured in separate incidents. The 5-year-old was struck by a gunshot while in a car on Sunday. Both children are expected to fully recover.
Gibson spoke to Bronx residents along the Grand Concourse, urging them to not turn to violence under any circumstance and to take advantage of the free summer youth programs being offered across New York City.
Clark says she is using every tool possible to hold the people involved in this weekend’s violent incidents accountable, and that the district attorney’s office is hard at work to stop the flow of guns into New York City.
