The family of a Bronx teenager who was fatally shot last year agreed to a plea bargain on Wednesday to avoid going through trial.

Angellyh Yambo, 16, was killed as she was walking home from school with a group of friends back in April of last year. Jeremiah Ryan is accused of killing Yambo with a ghost gun.

Under the plea deal, Ryan was supposed to plead guilty to second-degree murder of Yambo in exchange for a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. But unexpectedly Ryan decided not to appear before a judge.

“What we were disappointed about today is that the defendant did not show up for court and that he gets to do that and that's the main disappointment,” said Yambo family member Lissette Camargo. “He has a choice, and we don't.

Yambo’s family told News 12 they had agreed to a plea bargain in the murder case so that they wouldn't have to go through the emotional trauma of a lengthy trial.

“He took a special person from us that should be still here,” added Kristen Yambo. “There is no reason why he should be living his life fine and has the option or not whether he can show his face.”

Ryan is due back in court on Aug. 4.
