A local program aimed to help connect community college students to big universities is making its mark on the community.

The Kaplan Educational Foundation, which was established in 2006, uses tutoring, leadership and training to help students finish their associate degree. The students will then have the opportunity to transfer to some of the nation's highly selective schools.

Kaplan Educational Foundation executive director Nolvia Delgado tells News 12, "We have students who have gone on to medical school, we have students who have gone on to become attorneys. Most of our students are first-generation college students, They come from underrepresented backgrounds, and they want to make a change not only on their campuses but also in their communities."
