Loved ones and family members gathered in Brooklyn on Friday to mourn the lost life of 9-year-old Hasebul Nehan.

Authorities say the young boy who has autism wandered from his family when they were shopping in IKEA on Wednesday. Security footage captured the moment around 9 p.m. that night when Hasebul was seen walking towards the Erie Basin. His body was found near 1 Beard St.

The victim’s father says that he was in Bangladesh when the incident took place and that he flew in to commemorate his son’s lost life. His family says that while he was nonverbal, he impacted those around him every day in a positive way.

“I don’t want him to be remembered as just autistic. I want to be remembered as a great brother, that’s what I want people to remember him as,” said Abibul Nehan, Hasebul’s brother. “He was nonverbal, but he loves us, and he cared for us and he wanted to do everything for us.”
