A Unionport resident celebrated his milestone 100th birthday on Saturday.

Loved ones traveled near and far to Jimmy's Grand Café to be a part of Harry Simmons' party.

Simmons was a Brooklyn resident before he relocated to the Bronxite. The World War II veteran spent four and a half years overseas before he worked as a crane operator.

"I gave it a good life. I learned a lot of experiences that I'd never learn out in the streets, that's one thing," Simmons said.

But he did not stop after retirement.

"I drove a school bus for 10 years 'till I got 79 years old, and they told me I was too old to drive kids," Simmons said.

Simmons said while he cannot get around like he used too, he keeps on moving to stay healthy.

Borough President Vanessa Gibson signed a certificate of merit to honor Simmons' legacy.

Simmons credited his longevity to having an active mind and keeping it active.
