Ferry workers in New York City will start seeing more money in their pockets come next month.
The city and the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association agreed on a new contract on Friday.
Ferry workers haven't seen much, if any, change to their contract for 13 years. To compensate them for waiting so long, the city says the new contract is retroactive. This means they'll earn money the city says they should've made years ago.
"We are not just giving folks money, they earned this already. They earned it. I don't know how these guys made it 13 years without a salary increase. And so, we're paying them for what we held up on," said Mayor Eric Adams.
The new contract also gives ferry workers a 40-hour work week instead of 32 hours.
