Locust Valley High School hosts first stateside Remembrance Bowl

Long Islanders cheered on students in Locust Valley Saturday for the Remembrance Bowl football game.
General George S. Patton's granddaughter, Helen Patton, organized the game at Locust Valley High School.
The game honors the American soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy in World War II to liberate France. Helen Patton explained the close Long Island connection to the historic event in the European country.
"Locust Valley is the designated sister city to Sainte-Mère-Église, which is the first town that was liberated in France, and it has come to symbolize so much," she said.
The homecoming game was the first stateside Remembrance Bowl. The football event is usually held in France.
