City officials and members of the Bedford Park community gathered Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of a brand-new luxury apartment building offering affordable housing.

With the support of elected officials, the New York Botanical Gardens, Douglaston Development and other project partners, 188-units at 2850 Webster Ave. are now available to low-income earning seniors struggling to afford housing in New York City.

The building offers 100% of its units to seniors earning up to 50% of the area median income (AMI), $49,450 for a one-person household and $56,500 for a household of two.

It delivers on-site social services, a fitness center, ground floor retail space and a free membership to the New York Botanical Gardens.

"I've never been there, this will be my first time,” said resident Norman McMullen. "To have something where I can go somewhere else to see things and do something different, it's a big blessing.”
