The Department of Transportation is floating a plan that would ban souvenir and food vendors from city bridges.

The proposal states this is to enhance pedestrian safety, ease overcrowding and promote the security of the bridges.

City officials say in 2022, there were an average of over 34,000 pedestrians on the Brooklyn Bridge's elevated walkway on the average fall weekend day. They say for the Brooklyn Bridge and other city bridges, the high pedestrian counts make vending along walkways unsafe.
