The NYPD announced its plan to secure the safety of everyone participating in Sunday's 52nd annual New York City Marathon.

The NYPD said an estimated 50,000 people are expected to run in the race, while more than a million people watch from the sidelines.

NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban confirmed Wednesday there are no credible threats. However, he said with tension rising around the globe, the department has an extensive plan to dispatch many plainclothes officers and those in uniform with heavy weapons and canines.

Police said all runners and their belongings will be screened and that there will be hundreds of cameras along the route.

The NYPD said it can always use the public’s help reporting suspicious behavior in a heightened threat environment.
