The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church has been a staple in Williamsburg for over 150 years but is most recently in the midst of controversy after being used as a location for pop artist Sabrina Carpenter’s recent music video.  

The video has gained over 3 million views since it was released three days ago – but the Brooklyn Diocese is outraged, saying in a statement, in part: 

"Bishop Brennan is appalled at what was filmed at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn...he is taking this matter seriously and will be looking into it further." 

The diocese also says the church did not follow filming policy, which should have included reviewing the scenes filmed and the script. The parish of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church says that they were misled about the nature of the video’s content.  

One parishioner says that she was so offended by what she heard about the video that she refuses to even watch it.
