Fire officials say one person was found dead at a morning structure fire in the Bronx.
Firefighters responded to 399 East 160th St. for a fire on the sixth floor of the building, FDNY says. The victim was found after the fire was put out at around 11:23 a.m.
Officials say that firefighters were able to subdue the flames in less than 15 minutes, but that it was too late to save the victim when they arrived.
Sources say that while it remains unclear how the fire started, a lighter was found near the body of the victim. Some residents in the area tell News 12 that they are suspecting possible foul play.
"I'm shocked. I wasn't with him anymore for years, but I wouldn't want anyone to get burned alive," said Krystle Ramos, who says she knew the victim. "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy."
No typical fire aftermath signs were visible at the scene, such as smoke in the air or broken-in windows. The fire took place just two buildings away from where 30-year-old David Disla was fatally shot on Saturday night.
No other information has been revealed at this time.
