A New Brunswick man who threatened a Florida sheriff on an anonymous website will spend more than year in prison.

Authorities in Florida say Richard Golden, 38, posted online that he wanted to shoot and murder Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

Golden was arrested at his mother's home in the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick in March. He was then extradited to Florida.

Authorities say Golden posted to the site 4chan, encouraging the murder of Chitwood. He and other users were allegedly discussing Chitwood’s response to recent hate activity in Florida.

“I cannot wait to meet him when he gets off the plane,” Chitwood said in March, “because one of the first faces he’s going to see welcoming him to the Volusia County Jail, the happiest place on earth, is going to be me.”
