Police: 2 teens thrown off e-bike in St. James crash; 1 seriously injured

Police say a 24-year-old was driving on Middle Country Road at around 3:30 p.m. when he attempted to make a left turn and hit an e-bike operated by 13-year-old Myles Cotten.

A crash involving an e-bike in St. James left a 13-year-old boy with serious injuries on Friday.

Police say a 24-year-old was driving on Middle Country Road at around 3:30 p.m. when he attempted to make a left turn and hit an e-bike operated by 13-year-old Myles Cotten. Cotten and his passenger, 14-year-old Jack Schouten, were thrown from the bike.

The two teens were not wearing helmets at the time, according to authorities. Both were rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Cotten is suffering from serious injuries, while Schouten is expected to be OK. Police say the driver was not injured.
