According to police, Lordes Camillo tried to cross the street when she was hit by two cars - but the first driver did not stay at the scene.
The final moments of Camillo’s life were caught on surveillance camera. The 53-year-old mother and grandmother walked out of her apartment building on Melrose Avenue and it appears she did not have the light when she went to cross the street.
Camillo was hit from the back by the Cherokee and thrown into the path of another car. The first driver took off, while the second car pulled over.
Jorge was stopped at the red light when he heard the impact.
"I heard a bang, and when I see a bang, I saw the car just drive by, so I thought it was a garbage pail or a laundry cart that was actually struck," said Jorge.
Jorge sprung into action and called 911 and moved a garbage can into the street to block Camillo from being hit again.
Friends and neighbors have put together a small memorial outside her apartment.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
