Federal, state and local leaders focused on bringing healthy food to Bronx tables

Over two dozen Bronx organization representatives took part in a conversation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, focusing on how to fight food insecurity in the Bronx.

This comes as the state Department of Health released a report stating that 39% of adults in the borough self-reported that they were either always, usually or sometimes stressed about not having enough money to buy nutritious meals.

The USDA is investing $42 million in Green Thumb Community Gardens here in the Bronx and across the five boroughs to bring fresh water to the food-producing urban farms that don’t have direct access.

The goal is to fight food insecurity by providing the resources to grow affordable food in the Bronx and the city through urban agriculture.
