FDNY and 'Ghostbusters' team up for fire safety awareness

The event coincided with the upcoming premiere of the latest "Ghostbusters" movie.
Ladder 8 Manhattan, famously known as the "Ghostbusters headquarters," underwent a transformation into a "Frozen Empire," mirroring the theme of the upcoming film.
Enthusiastic fans of all ages adorned themselves in signature jumpsuits and backpacks, adding to the festive atmosphere. There also was the famed ectomobile parked outside the station.
"New York is the epicenter of the "Ghostbusters" universe, and it’s cool being outside of the firehouse. We’ve been here when it’s not decorated or no special events are going on - this means a lot to us. This is the mecca," said Jarrett Koral, a dedicated "Ghostbusters" fan who traveled to New York from Detroit for the event.
"I like it, I think it’s really cool," said another fan, 10-year-old Aerabella Yingling, who was visiting with her father James Sechler.
Beyond the excitement of the movie premiere, the event aimed to promote fire safety education, offering attendees free CPR classes and opportunities to sign up for smoke alarm installations.
FDNY Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, "This is a fun partnership and it is also a serious one because we hope people come by and they take away something that can save the lives of them or their families."
FDNY EMT Diana Wilson underscored the significance of community involvement in emergency response, stating, "What we want to do is save someone’s life, and we also want you to know that we’re there. But it’s easy for the public to do something. We want you guys to jump into action, become part of the 911 system, so we can help and give this person a second chance of life."
Officials hailed the event as a successful collaboration, with the new Ghostbusters movie set to premiere on March 22. Fire safety presentations will continue on-site until March 23.
