Castle Hill community group serves people in need
The Disciples of Galilee, a group of volunteers based out of Castle Hill, say they are dedicated to helping out the community.

They say their main focus is helping those who struggle with homelessness and addiction, but will serve anyone who comes to them in need.
“It's a blessing to be able to bridge the gap in a community that needs, you know, love in such a dark age,” said Amanda Nieves, a member of the Disciples of Galilee.
The group packs bags of groceries for a weekly food pantry. It happens every Friday at 1:30 p.m. outside 725 Castle Hill Ave.
Members from the group also tell News 12 they do homeless outreach. They’ll drive around the Bronx giving people hot meals and sandwiches to save for later. They’ll also provide hygiene care packages equipped with things like mouthwash, a toothbrush and supplies for drug use, like fentanyl test strips and Narcan.
“It's so important to feel like a human, to feel loved, to feel valued. And despite your situation, how down and out you are, you're still very valuable,” said Max Acosta, the president of the Disciples of Galilee.
