As Bronx residents brace for the next round of heat today, the MTA is taking extra steps to make sure commuters are safe.

Transit officials say their goal is to provide riders with great service, while also keeping them safe.

So, how will they do that? According to MTA officials, additional transit staff will be stationed at key locations conducting inspections and assisting commuters. Train yards and bus depots will be staged with emergency equipment like backup generators in case of power outages, and 99% of subway cars and buses will have working air conditioning.

Once again, cooling centers will be open across the Bronx today, as the city’s heat advisory has now been extended until 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
