The fight for cameras and better lighting along the Major Deegan Expressway continues for a Bronx grandmother years after her granddaughter's tragic death.

Iyasia Diamond Wallace's life was cut short after a crash along the expressway back in 2019. Since then, Nandra Coles has fought in hopes of preventing others to follow a similar fate.

Iyasia's cousin, Ava Dessources, was in the car the night it all happened.

"I just smelt gas, and I thought we were getting gas because I wasn't really paying attention, looking out the window. And I look next to me and she was just covered in blood with her eyes closed," said Dessources.

Coles says although repairs were made, drivers are once again left in the dark. In July, police say a person was killed in a crash along the same expressway.

Coles tells News 12 she also captured another accident on her phone back in May.

"Something has to be done," said Coles.
