The residents living at the Ingersoll Houses voted last week on what to do with $30,000 from the city. Some said that the money could improve their quality of life.
"I'm just glad that they picked this community to do this," said nearby resident.
People living in the Ingersoll Houses cast their last ballots on Aug. 29 on what they hope can improve the safety at the NYCHA development. It’s part of the mayor's action plan for neighborhood safety.
For the residents, the word safety is more than just protecting them from crime but giving them a neighborhood home and public spaces that are cared for.
The project is also helping over 20 other developments that had the highest number of crimes, according to the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice.
People in the told News 12 they voted for economic stability and youth development from a list of options geared toward neighborhood safety. Many said they’re excited to see what’s in store for these residents.
The votes are still being counted, but the residents can expect to see some improvements in the next few months.
