In the Bronx, there have been at least three violent attacks on the MTA buses and trains in three days. The latest happened Tuesday morning, police say a 45-year-old man was stabbed in the chest while on a 4 train as it pulled into the 138th Street and Grand Concourse station. It happened just before 3 a.m.
"It's the first I'm hearing something crazy happening here, that's pretty shocking, it's pretty sad," said Hammdu Fisiru, a subway rider.
On Sunday, police say a 15-year-old boy was shot on a Bx35 bus after a dispute turned violent. Hours later, investigators say a 23-year-old man was slashed with a box cutter while on a Bronx bus bound for Inwood.
"It's outrageous, we need to be protected more," said Lizsandra, who rides the subway daily.
She says despite an increased police presence, there is still a lingering fear while on public transportation.
City leaders say citywide, there were 81 fewer serious crimes reported on the subway system from January to August, with a 5.5% drop in subway crime from the previous year.
