Mount Eden mother raises concerns over daughter’s late school bus

Doris Attah says her daughter’s school bus consistently arrives late to school, which she says causes anxiety for her nonverbal, autistic child.
Attah says her daughter Amanda becomes visibly distressed each morning when the bus approaches. “She scratches herself and gives me eye contact like, ‘Get me out of here,’” says Attah.
Despite Amanda’s school being only a 20-minute drive from home, the bus often arrives at school as late as 9 a.m., even though classes start at 8 a.m. Attah says Amanda gets on the bus between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m.
The Department of Education says it has launched an investigation and adjusted Amanda’s bus route to ensure she arrives on time.
