The fire started in Inwood Hill Park, as the area faces record-breaking droughts and wind coming from the north.

Residents in the area of Kingsbridge, Marble Hill and University Heights were warned about impacts of heavy smoke nearby.

"I spoke to Park Rangers, and they were the ones who discovered it. It was a small ring of fire but it quickly spread because everything is so dry," said an eyewitness.
